In the game against Nuremberg Owen made his long-awaited comeback from injury. He played the full 90 minutes and proved that he regained full match fitness again.

Owen then decided not to play for England against Spain, because he wanted to focus on Bayern’s game against Arminia Bielefeld. At least that was the plan. But before the game Owen came down with the flu.

Roy Makaay scored the winner on 8 minutes and so secured Bayern’s first win of the year, at the fourth time of asking. “It was very important to get back to winning ways. This win will boost our confidence for the next games,” said Owen.

On 20 December 2006 the Bavarians were knocked out of the German Cup by Alemannia, losing 4-2. Owen missed that match due to his broken leg and it hasn’t been decided yet whether he will play on Saturday. But Owen is on the road to recovery, feeling much better. It all depends now how long it will take him to shake off the flu.
